Lukashenko wants business to be socially responsible

MINSK, 8 August (BelTA) – Businessmen should be socially responsible and work not only for their benefit but also for the benefit of the state, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he heard out a report on the fulfillment of instructions to stimulate business activity on 8 August, BelTA has learned.

“Any joint steps, both mine as an authority and yours as business representatives, should benefit the state and business. A one-sided street is unacceptable. I would like to see our business free, responsible and more efficient. I would also like to see a stronger state after the adoption of these decisions [to stimulate business growth]. If you see it another way, this will not work,” Alexander Lukashenko said addressed businessmen.

The president stressed that he is against setting any unnecessary requirements to working people. Alexander Lukashenko called upon businessmen to understand that they work in a state and that their wellbeing depends on the strength of this state. “We must not allow a huge inequality gap between the poor and the rich as in some countries. This can only lead to instability,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko also warned start-up entrepreneurs against unreasonable illusions: Doing business is a hard work. One needs to have certain skills, expertise and knowledge and also certain traits of character. It is especially true for our society where this type of activity is just starting to gain momentum.
