MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – The government must step up communication with people, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he hosted a meeting on 23 July to discuss the country’s economic performance and development, BelTA has learned.

“We need to reach out to people, we need to explain things, to talk about our policies. I do not see some of you doing this job at all. Those who are not willing to do it, please do not. We will do without you. But it is the job of ours, all civil servants, to reach out to people and talk to them," the Belarusian leader stressed.

The head of state said that the socially oriented policy, with an individual, their interests and needs in the center, will remain the main guiding principle behind any decision. “People have elected us to be the guarantor of the safety and order in the society. And if shocks are too strong, we must mitigate their impact as much as possible. To do this, we need to explain more to people what is happening in the country and in the world, and why we make certain decisions," the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that during the current election campaign a huge number of initiatives and suggestions have come from citizens. “The economic services of all levels need to use this powerful feedback channel in their daily work,” the Belarusian leader stressed. “All the issues raised by people must be addressed. The executive order I have signed following the monitoring of people’s concerns must be fulfilled,” the Belarusian leader said.

“In this regard the new government will need to adjust its working style,” the president said.
