MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – The government and the Hi-Tech Park (HTP) must take a more active role in establishing development centers in Belarus, ensuring IT teams are focused on national projects, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in his Address to the Belarusian people and Parliament, BelTA has learned.
The president drew attention to the need to develop the national IT industry. “The experience of sanctions, when at the snap of a finger software support stopped and enterprise technological chains were put at risk, became yet another lesson for us. There was a simple step on my part: to forbid using sanctions as an excuse. But they did not disappear. This is one of the directions we must address,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The head of state emphasized that this vulnerability in the national IT industry will certainly be eliminated. “Critical sectors must be provided with import-independent software products at least at 90%,” he stated.
The president added that Belarus has everything necessary for this: a legal framework, infrastructure, IT training schools, and the Hi‑Tech Park. “The government and the Hi-Tech Park must more actively establish development centers in Belarus, ensuring IT teams are primarily focused on national projects, rather than supporting large companies in the United States or other countries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
