Lukashenko urges average salary in Belarus back to $500 in 2017

MOGILEV, 14 November (BelTA) – During the working trip to Mogilev Oblast Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave an instruction to restore the average salary back to the level of $500 in equivalent in 2017 provided that there is a commensurable growth in labor productivity, BelTA has learned.

When receiving a report on the development of the oblast capital, the President noted that the current level of salaries is too low. “Get ready to raise the average salary to $500 in equivalent next year,” Alexander Lukashenko instructed. At the same time, the head of state emphasized that it is unreasonable to raise salaries without the growth of labor productivity. “We should not pay unearned money. It is inadmissible. In this case, we will be back to the situation we had two years ago. We must stimulate and encourage heads of private and state-owned enterprises to do their best to make salaries closer to the $500 level,” the President stressed.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized the importance of creating new jobs and ensuring the employment of people. The President also gave an instruction to step up work with loss-making enterprises, especially with those on the brink of bankruptcy. According to Alexander Lukashenko it is essential to do everything to support them. “Such phrases as “bankruptcy through reorganization” scare people and workers. No one will allow closing enterprises or selling them for a song. We must forget about such practices once and for all in the agricultural industry and manufacturing,” the head of state said. “It is important to save enterprises because people need work. Therefore, it is up to you to decide who will operate these enterprises and help them get back to normal.”
