Lukashenko to visit Russia, Tajikistan

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko will pay a visit to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko will pay a working visit to the Russian Federation where a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will be held in Sochi on 14 May. The heads of state will discuss topical issues related to the operation and development of the organization and ways to broaden cooperation across a number of areas.

Belarus’ President is expected to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the state and prospects of the bilateral relations, issues of concern and the preparation for the forthcoming session of the Supreme State Council to be held in Minsk.

After that Alexander Lukashenko will go on an official visit to Tajikistan and is expected to stay there till 16 May. Belarus’ President is to hold one-on-one talks and an extended meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. The heads of state will review the progress made and discuss plans to expand trade and economic cooperation and to step up joint work in the manufacturing industry, as well as implementation of joint projects, including investment projects, and joint activities on the markets of third countries. Bilateral documents are expected to be signed during the visit.

The presidents are scheduled to take part in the opening of Belarus’ national expo in Tajikistan and a series of other events.

A Tajikistan-Belarus business forum will take place during the official visit of Belarus’ head of state to Dushanbe. Attending the event will be representatives of the business community of Afghanistan. Other events include a business matchmaking session for enterprises and organizations of the three countries. Participants of the forum will discuss promising areas of economic cooperation with Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
