Lukashenko taking part in CIS summit in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, 28 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is participating in the CIS summit that is taking place in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, BelTA has learned.

The event started with a joint photo opportunity of the heads of the delegations.

In his opening address at the narrow-format meeting Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon noted that during the period of its CIS chairmanship Tajikistan had done a lot to promote cooperation across many areas. “Economic cooperation was expanding. In line with the documents adopted in the CIS before, a due focus was made on intensifying cultural and humanitarian contacts between the CIS member states,” Emomali Rahmon said.

The international summit is taking place at the Somon Palace located at the Government Residence. The participants of the session are to discuss draft documents aimed at facilitating cooperation in politics, economy, culture, humanitarian field and other key areas of the CIS agenda. The sessions will be held in narrow and extended formats.

The leaders of the CIS member states gathered in Dushanbe a day before and met at an informal dinner. The hosts decorated the venue of the informal dinner at the Government Residence in a very creative way. Decorations were made using Tajik traditional fruit and vegetables.
