Lukashenko: Supranational bodies are not on Belarus-Russia agenda, work on roadmaps will continue

SVETLOGORSK, 14 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia do not discuss the creation of supranational bodies, but the work on the roadmaps will continue, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with the staff of the Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill on 14 February, BelTA has learned.

“We will continue our movement towards integration. There is nothing bad in it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. In his words, the parties decided not to discuss the development of supranational bodies and other associations envisaged in the 31st roadmap. “Purely economic matters are on the integration agenda. We are talking about a real integration, and not how the Russian mass media present it. They see the integration as an intake of Belarus by Russia. This is not integration, but an incorporation. I will never agree to this,” the president said.

The head of state cited the work on common taxation approaches. In his words, the two countries need to adopt each other’s best practices to set up a state-of-the-art code. “Although we have a different taxation basis: oil and gas in Russia and the real sector in Belarus. We have different systems, but let’s work them through. There is nothing wrong with it. We can do it across all the areas,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
