Lukashenko speaks about efficiency of centralized tests

GOMEL, 17 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko shared his opinion about the centralized testing at the meeting with the personnel of the confectionery factory Spartak on 17 June, BelTA has learned.

One of the workers of the enterprise asked the head of state about his attitude to centralized testing. According to the President, he has mixed feelings about this form of exams. An obvious advantage is that the existing system helped virtually eradicate corruption and bribery in the process of enrollment. “However, not all exemplary school students become excellent professionals in the future. We do not see a person behind the results of centralized tests, do not know see his way of thinking,” the head of state noted when speaking about the other side of the story.

In this context, Alexander Lukashenko said that every year the state commission improves certain aspects in the organization of the enrollment campaign based on the experience. Decisions are made to expand sponsored admission. Besides, winners of various international and national academic excellence competitions and Olympiads do not have to pass entrance tests for a number of specializations.

“I think we should not reject anything right now. We will have a normal process. If we make sure that centralized testing is not the right thing, it will be immediately abolished,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “It is not the right moment to start to break the system. We will improve it in a way not to lose talented and promising children.”

The President added that during the recent enrollment campaign attempts have been made to eliminate differences between school curricula and the tasks in centralized tests. “We saw his problem and started to regulate the issue. This year I demanded to prepare normal tests. Because even university lecturers do not cope with some of the tasks. It is not normal. We have adjusted these tests to the school curricula,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko also deems it necessary to improve school curricula. For example, it is needed to pay more attention to home economics to help school students acquire useful skills and knowledge. Children should learn it at school because not all of them can learn it at home, he said.
