MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – The Nobel Committee is a politicized entity, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss the situation in the world and Belarus-USA relations in Minsk on 14 October, BelTA has learned.
The head of state commented on this issue regarding this year’s decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to a virtually unknown opposition activist from Venezuela rather than U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Personally, I would advise him [the U.S. president] not to be too upset about not receiving this Nobel Prize. Because being among those renegades is probably beneath him. And the people of the world should appreciate what the United States and its president are doing on the international stage. The opinion of the international community and the people of the world is more important than that of this politicized entity [the Nobel Committee],” the head of state said.
“I sometimes think, if this prize were offered to any of you or to me, I would certainly refuse it. Because we know our own [opposition] figures and the ‘contributions’ they have made to establishing peace in the world in general. They have done nothing. On the contrary, they have been pushing Belarus into this so-called war. And to compare this with some opposition activist from Venezuela (no offense to her, I know nothing of her politics, and neither do you). They simply awarded her for fighting to destroy Venezuela. Is this normal?” the Belarusian president stated.
