Lukashenko sends Chinese New Year greetings to Xi Jinping

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Chinese New Year, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“The Belarusian people are sincerely happy that under your leadership in 2021 the Chinese nation achieved the First Centennial Goal despite all the challenges  - eliminating poverty and building a moderately prosperous society,” the message reads.

The head of state believes that China will continue working its way towards the Second Centennial Goal  - building a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious. “The fulfillment of this task will have a positive impact on the economies of the Asian region and the whole world,” the Belarusian leader believes.

Minsk is proud of the relations of iron brotherhood and all-weather friendship with Beijing. These relations survived confrontation with global powers, and grew stronger through daily painstaking work for the benefit of the people of the two countries, the president stated.

Aleksandr Lukashenko welcomed rapidly increasing trade between Belarus and China, the implementation of world-class joint investment projects, as well as mutual assistance in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our states pay special attention to the expansion of humanitarian cooperation, including educational and cultural contacts that bring peoples even closer,” the Belarusian leader said.

He thanked China for its correct understanding of the development model and national interests of Belarus. “I assure you of our continued support for China on fundamental issues, including the One China principle,” the head of state stressed.

The president welcomed Xi Jinping’s global development initiative: “We fully share its goals, we consider it important for the global community to focus on achieving progress together instead of embarking on confrontation leading to self-destruction.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Xi Jinping, his family and the entire Chinese nation good health and happiness.
