OSIPOVICHI DISTRICT, 21 May (BelTA) – The topic of the army and national security is on the Belarusian president’s agenda every day, Aleksandr Lukashenko said while speaking to journalists after a joint nuclear forces drill conducted with Russia, BelTA has learned.
“If we talk less about the army now than about the sowing campaign, that doesn’t mean we are not dealing with it. Every day, this topic is on my agenda. I understand that the economy and security are the top-priority issues today. This will remain the case. So live calmly, don’t worry,” the president said.

“God forbid anything happens. You have already seen the nuclear drill. No one here will hesitate. The moment we are attacked, the moment aggression is carried out against us, there will be an immediate response with all types of weapons. Otherwise, why would we keep them? That is absolutely clear. This is very important for us. We will act in this direction without threatening anyone. Don’t touch us, and we certainly have no intention of touching you,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
The president also said he is alarmed by the fact that abroad “they have begun shouting very loudly that Russia will attack them tomorrow”. “It is as if they are preparing an attack on us through information channels. This alarms me. Therefore, we will prepare for this in every possible way. Today the defense minister briefed me for three hours on the situation in our army from ammunition storage facilities to personnel matters,” he said.
