Lukashenko reveals where he will go first on official visit if he wins election

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – After casting his ballot in the presidential election on 26 January, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told journalists where he will make his first official visit if he gets re-elected, BelTA has learned.

“Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] and I have recently discussed this topic: 'Listen, it would be strange if I went anywhere other than Moscow' - 'Aleksandr Grigorievich, you are always welcome here.' That was our conversation. Naturally, it [a different destination] will not just be odd, it will be incomprehensible to many. Therefore, I plan to meet with the president of Russia in Moscow and hold talks, which is usually done on official visits,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted, answering a question from journalists.

“I don't like official routines at all. I like working meetings, when we meet, talk (our negotiations always drag on into the night). Yet, these are signals for society. That's why I plan to visit the Russian Federation,” the president said, adding that it was a loaded question.

“You have provoked me. And Steve [BBC journalist Steven Rosenberg] will now say that I already know that I will win. Steve, it wasn't me who has said that!” the head of state remarked. “Steve would have probably missed it unless I had brought it to attention. Okay, let them talk. They will talk anyway,” the president said.
