MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko responded to the fake news about the billions parked in the Middle East as he delivered the address to the Belarusian people and Parliament in Minsk on 18 December, BelTA has learned.
“No sooner had I left on a trip to the Middle East than they [opposition outlets] started writing that I was hiding money. They write ‘he's hiding money’. I thought: why they take Belarusians for fools?! Any reasonable person would ask: ‘How can you hide such money?’ Here we have Roman Golovchenko, the top banker. How can you hide money today? That kind of money?!” the head of state noted.
The president recounted that he recently discussed this topic in a private circle. It was noted that last year they wrote about $13 billion, and now they are writing about $9 billion. “My interlocutor quipped: ‘where the president managed to squander $4 billion in a year’. I myself didn't even pay attention. Well, that kind of money!” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
He addressed those who write about it: “Guys, you probably know where I hid it. Well, go ahead and take it. You'll need a written power of attorney, I'll give you one. Go and take it.”
“They twist, they turn... They [self-exiled opposition] are looking for ways to distract the people from this issue, where they have lost. Don't even think about it. You will never win anywhere. We have learned our lessons from 2020. We will keep exposing you in the media,” the head of state emphasized.
