BREST, 11 August (BelTA) – The constructing of objects that are erected in Brest for the celebrations of the city’s 1000^th anniversary is expected to finish before September 2019, Chairman of the Brest City Hall Alexander Rogachuk told Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on 11 August, BelTA informs.

“The operation of the economic complex of the city allows implementing construction and infrastructure facilities, including for the 1000^th anniversary celebrations. As for the old part of the city, we are mostly building infrastructure facilities there. As far as the other part is concerned (the other bank of the river), its population was 40,000 in 1990. Now its population makes up 90,000, including 20,000 children. Therefore, we focused on the formation of the social infrastructure. There will be 110,000 people by 2020,” Alexander Rogachuk said.

He also spoke about the construction of the biggest infrastructure object, the Western bypass. It is erected in line with Decree No. 11 of 5 January 2012 “On building the Western bypass in Brest”. The first part, a bridge across the Mukhavets river, was opened in 2014. Part of the transport junctions, the Warsaw motorway were renovated. The Western bypass will help optimize transport flows between the left and right banks of the Mukhavets river. In the future, a road will connect the P17 motorway (Brest – Ukraine’s border) and the M1 motorway (Brest – Minsk – Russia’s border), and international automobile border checkpoints Brest – Terespol and Kozlovichi – Kukuryki. “I think that the implementation of this project is the main present for Brest people on the 1000^th anniversary of the city,” Alexander Rogachuk stressed.

He spoke about other facilities, including the Kobrin crossover. “A very narrow bridge was built at the beginning of the 20^th century. If two trolleybuses travelling in opposite directions meet, there is no place for cars. We have started a preliminary phase of construction, are working with communication networks. We are ahead of schedule,” the chairman of the Brest City Hall said.

Besides, plans have been made to build a new bus terminal. “The bus terminal is located in the old part of the city. It is squeezed by narrow streets. Therefore, a decision was made to work on this issue. We have already prepared a design solution envisaging the construction of a new bus terminal near the existing railway station. There will be good logistics,” Alexander Rogachuk said.

Speaking about the financing of construction projects, Alexander Rogachuk said that there are no problems. “We are using budget financing and financing from other sources. Together with the Belarusian Football Federation we are building a football arena. The total cost is $8 million,” he said.

The president promised to inspect the compliance of facilities with the submitted project.
