Lukashenko, Putin discuss political contacts and Ukraine

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed political relations and the Ukrainian issue during the Sochi talks, the Belarusian head of state said at a session in Minsk on 22 September, BelTA has learned.

During the face-to-face talks, the presidents discussed the political agenda, Russia-Belarus interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, the CIS, the CSTO and the further development of the Union State. “There were some specific, well-known issues related to the CSTO, its presidency and the organization’s development prospects. Top on the agenda were also some sensitive matters related to both our states within the framework of the CIS. First of all, it is Ukraine. The dialogue was held in a positive mode,” the Belarusian leader said.

“I think these matters will be discussed once again, first of all, in Dushanbe in a week [at the CIS summit]. They will also be on the agenda of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Mogilev on 12 October. This forum will be attended by the two presidents and the heads of government,” the Belarusian leader added.
