Lukashenko praises prompt police response in Smolevichi District

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – During a government conference Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko praised the prompt response of law enforcement officers to an armed assault in Smolevichi District, Minsk Oblast, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I looked at [Internal Affairs Minister Ivan] Kubrakov. Well done! What happened happened. But [law enforcement officers arrived] several minutes after it happened. Sooner than the ambulance. The minister was there and sorted out who was guilty on the spot. This is how things should be if we want to consider ourselves a people-first state.”

According to the investigators, three armed foreigners aged 17-18 broke a window and got inside a single-family house in the agrotown of Budagovo at about 4:00 in the morning on 16 February. They used physical force, a baseball bat, and pistols to inflict multiple wounds on the 63-year-old host, his 65-year-old spouse, and a 67-year-old brother. An alarm button of the Security Services Department of the Internal Affairs Ministry had been installed in the house. The house owner managed to press the button before the criminals broke the window.
