Lukashenko plans to visit Ecuador in 2016

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko plans to visit Ecuador in 2016. He made the statement at the meeting with President of the National Assembly of Ecuador Gabriela Rivadeneira Burbano on 28 March, BelTA has learned.

“I am very glad that the representative of such a geographically distant but still like-minded country as Ecuador stays in Belarus today,” the head of state noted. He shared his impressions of the visit to Ecuador in 2012. “I have been to many countries, but the uniqueness and originality of Ecuador cannot be compared to any of them,” he said.

The President of Belarus stressed that the Belarusian side is now gearing up for the top-level visit to Ecuador. “We are working out the agenda, first of all, its trade and economic dimensions. We should implement our agreements reached during the top-level talks with Ecuador President Rafael Correa. I think that we will prepare the program of this visit very quickly,” he remarked.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, it is very important that Belarus and Ecuador establish solid inter-parliamentary ties. He is convinced that these contacts will be the foundation for the development of the entire spectrum of Belarus-Ecuador cooperation in politics, trade, investment, promotion of joint projects which have been outlined by the two sides before. Apart from that, the head of state focused on the operation of the Latin American inter-parliamentary assembly: “I hope for your assistance in the promotion of Belarus’ interests in the parliamentary dimension.”

He also said that the wellbeing of the Belarusian and Ecuadorian nations will depend on the countries’ progress in the enhancement of the trade and economic cooperation which is the foundation of bilateral ties. “That is why we are thoroughly working on the trade and economic issues when preparing for the Belarus President’s visit to Ecuador. I think that during your meetings in Minsk we will be able to discuss these issues in detail,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
