Lukashenko: People in Belarus have turned their attention to nature, but not all of them

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – People in Belarus have turned their attention to nature, but not all of them have done so yet. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he appointed Maksim Lysenko Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister, BelTA has learned.

The head of state warned the new head of the ministry that the ministry will be held accountable to the highest standards. “A most important ministry. As I often say, Belarus is kind of a small island of stability and, most importantly, of nature and love for nature. Our people have turned their face to nature. Not everyone has. Something always goes wrong. But people love Belarus, they love nature,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that citizens react on social networks if a tree is cut down somewhere. In this connection he pointed out that sometimes such steps are made out of objective necessity. “Trees, like people, are born, grow up, and then grow old,” he noted.

The head of state said that just this morning Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev had reported to him on the situation in the Medvezhino city forest in the capital city where, as people pointed out, several old trees were cut down.

“Sanitation logging,” noted Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi, who was present at the meeting.

“It is unavoidable. But thousands upon thousands of saplings have been planted in this park. It is a good park for people. This is a different topic. You have to understand it, be on top of it, and approach it very carefully,” the head of state told the new minister.

“But those who soil nature, and we have many people like that, especially in agriculture (either liquid manure pollutes a river or a lake in spring, or something else happens there, or poachers cast nets or walk through the forest with weapons, shooting left and right), this is unacceptable,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
