Lukashenko: Parliament should accommodate different political views

Lukashenko: Parliament should accommodate different political views

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – The parliament must become a discussion platform for MPs holding different political views, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss the organization and conduct of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, BelTA has learned.

“The parliament must become a discussion platform for dialogue between MPs holding different political views yet sharing the main principles: the independence of the country, sustainable development, and growth of well-being of Belarusians,” the head of state noted.

According to him, the parliament should be comprised of experts in various fields, responsible and devoted people, professionals with state-minded thinking, well-educated representatives of industrial and agricultural companies, lawyers, scholars, locally known business poeple, politicians and public figures.

“Only those MPs who have fulfilled all their election promises, who have maintained close communication with voters and who enjoy a real support and confidence of voters will have a place in the new parliament. I am alluding that people who will be running for a seat in the parliament will need to meet with people, talk to them, explain their positions and their plans for the work in the parliament. Your task is to help them organize the meetings with voters. It is important that people coming to the polling stations know what their candidate has achieved and what he needs to do tomorrow for the well-being of the region and the country,” the head of state said.

He noted that the mass media plays the main role in covering the work of MPs and the upcoming elections.
