Lukashenko okays measures to develop Mogilev Oblast’s southeast, Lake District till 2030

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed decree No.216 on measures to develop individual regions on 7 July. The document stipulates measures meant to give an additional impulse to the social and economic development of Mogilev Oblast’s southeast and the Lake District in Vitebsk Oblast till 2030, the press service of the head of state told BelTA.

The decree affects Klimovichi District, Kostyukovichi District, Krasnopolye District, Krichev District, Slavgorod District, Khotimsk District, and Cherikov District in Mogilev Oblast as well as Braslav District, Gorodok District, Dokshitsy District, Lepel District, Miory District, Polotsk District, and Ushachi District in Vitebsk Oblast that make up the so-called Lake District.

The decree will allow enabling favorable conditions for the further development of the regions, for setting up new enterprises and manufacturing facilities in their territories, and for implementing investment projects.

In particular, the document provides for the republican state budget to transfer funds to offset up to 35% of the capital costs incurred in the course of implementing investment projects using loans from OAO Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus.

Requirements are specified for the investment projects that aspire to get the transfers: they have to confirm economic efficiency and have to justify the repayment periods.

The decree also provides for adopting a program on social and economic development of Mogilev Oblast’s southeast for 2026-2030 and adding the corresponding chapter to the program on the social and economic development of Vitebsk Oblast. These documents are supposed to be reviewed by the oblast councils of deputies.

The responsibility of civil servants for the efficient implementation of the measures the decree stipulates has been specified.

A number of additional measures have been stipulated for Mogilev Oblast’s southeast: provisions of the presidential decrees on measures to develop this region (No.235 of 8 June 2015 and No.177 of 28 May 2020) will be updated and extended; machines and vehicles will be purchased at the expense of the republican budget and the oblast one on parity terms as part of the technical retooling of organizations; agricultural enterprises will be able to buy cattle heifers and bred heifers at the expense of the republican budget.
