Lukashenko: No money will be spared for art development in Belarus

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – No money will be spared for art development in Belarus. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he visited the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus on 6 March, BelTA has learned.

In the theater the head of state spectated a presentation concert featuring works nominated for the state prize of the Republic of Belarus for accomplishments in literature, art, and architecture of the year 2016. After that he talked to the artists, who had prepared the concert.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “I now strongly believe that no money should be spared for you. I’ve been saying for a long time that there can be no situation when money for art should be spared. None. I practice a different approach to the matter: money should be paid to those, who deserve it. Great money should be paid to those, who doubly deserve it. We will always find money for it.”

The President pointed out that art positively influences the society and inspires citizens. Art plays a major role in the life of young Belarusians. Efforts of cultural workers are particularly important in this regard. “Young people should be inspired as they leave your halls. Even if they come here without understanding anything about ballet, opera, musicals or classic music. Young people should leave with an understanding. Nearly as much understanding as your perception of your art,” Alexander Lukashenko was convinced.

Alexander Lukashenko added that it is necessary to put more efforts into popularizing national accomplishments in various spheres, including in culture. “There are people in Belarus, who truly deserve respect, attention, financial encouragement and support,” stressed the President.
