Lukashenko meets with Erdogan on sidelines of SCO summit

ASTANA, 4 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Astana, Kazakhstan on 4 July, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian-Turkish contacts at the top level develop actively. The Belarus president has visited Türkiye four times. The first official visit of the president of the Turkish republic to Belarus took place in 2016. The heads of state regularly talk to each other over the phone and meet at international platforms.

Türkiye occupies the sixth position in terms of mutual trade and the eighth position in terms of export of Belarusian goods among Belarus’ trade partners. In 2023 Belarus-Türkiye trade exceeded $1 billion for the third year in a row and was close to $1.3 billion.
