Lukashenko invites president of Equatorial Guinea to visit Belarus

MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik held talks with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo during his official visit to Equatorial Guinea, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The minister conveyed the leader of Equatorial Guinea a message from President Aleksandr Lukashenko and an invitation to visit Belarus.

"The parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to developing interstate relations. The main attention was paid to cooperation in economy, including agriculture, industrial cooperation, food production, healthcare," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

As BelTA reported, on the same day Sergei Aleinik held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Diaspora Simeon Oyono Esono Angue of Equatorial Guinea. The parties discussed the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation and the interaction in international organizations. The ministers reaffirmed the similarity of approaches to the main issues on the global and regional agenda, including a just world order, the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the sustainable development of states and food security on a global scale.

The foreign ministers signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a mechanism for regular political consultations and a joint statement on the agreements reached. They relate to the development of political dialogue, cooperation in trade, economy and investment, cooperative ties, food security, healthcare, medicine, maternal and child health, education, science and technology, mining and petrochemical sector, security and defense.

"The parties outlined practical steps to expand the legal framework of bilateral relations," the ministry said.

Sergei Aleinik also met with the first vice president, minister of state at the Presidency of the Republic and minister of defense.

Equatorial Guinea is one of the richest and most stable countries in Africa. In 2021, the country's GDP totaled $12.3 billion, the inflation rate was 5.1%. The country ranks first in Africa in terms of GDP per capita (about $8,000).
