Lukashenko invites Bulgaria’s president to visit Belarus

Lukashenko invites Bulgaria’s president to visit Belarus

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has invited Bulgaria President Rumen Radev to visit Belarus, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following his talks with Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zakharieva in Sofia on 6 February, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei handed the Belarusian leader’s invitation to Rumen Radev during their meeting in Sofia.

Belarus is working on a visit of Chairperson of the upper house of Belarus’ parliament Natalya Kochanova to Bulgaria, the minister added. The visit will take place in the second half of 2020. “I am confident that these visits will take our relations on a qualitatively new level,” Vladimir Makei said.

In his words, Belarus and Bulgaria have no principled differences that can hinder the development of bilateral contacts. “We agreed on the need to expand contacts between the governments, government bodies, and various organizations. Economic ties are the basis of our cooperation. Of particular interest for us is the establishment of new relations and the strengthening of the existing ties in business,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.

As it has been reported, the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs is in Bulgaria on the first official visit in the history of bilateral relations. Vladimir Makei met with Bulgaria President Rumen Radev, Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Assembly Tsveta Karayancheva, and representatives of Bulgarian business.
