Lukashenko instructs to create Belarusian air defense missile system

BORISOV, 24 June (BelTA) – A Belarus-made air defense missile system as good as the Russian S-300 system has to be created. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave the instruction as he visited defense industry enterprises in the town of Borisov on 24 June, BelTA has learned.

During the tour of the radio warfare equipment repairs factory the President was informed about efforts to create a Belarusian air defense missile system. “If there are no issues with export, then certainly it has to be done,” said the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko underlined that apart from repairing and upgrading the hardware Belarusian enterprises should gradually advance towards making new modern weaponry. “We have to create our own system based on this and it should be as good as the S-300 system. Think about what kind of missile it will have. The missile has to be effective and able to destroy any target. All factories once started with repairs, then proceeded to modernization and then the manufacturing of their own products,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

“You have to make new modern weapons for defending the country and for export,” stressed the President.

Speaking about the Belarus-made air defense missile system, Alexander Lukashenko said he would like more than one enterprise or a government agency to be involved in the effort. The task has to be accomplished by combining efforts of all concerned parties. “Give tasks to other enterprises to make electronics, optics. You have to create both strike systems and weaponry,” noted the Belarusian leader.

The head of state was informed about the organizational and manufacturing structure, the financial operation and development prospects of the radio warfare equipment repairs factory. In particular, Alexander Lukashenko was made familiar with the variant that envisages profound modernization of the air defense missile system S-125. The President was told that the enterprise can now completely overhaul S-300 systems.
