Lukashenko instructs to clean up war cemeteries, mass grave sites

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – In 2018 – H1 2018 plans have been made to clean up and restore war monuments and memorials, individual and mass graves of soldiers killed during World War I and the Great Patriotic War, war cemeteries, parts of cemeteries where soldiers are buried, mass graves of civilian people. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has signed a corresponding executive order, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The Council of Ministers has been instructed to ensure the approval of regulations for the cleanup of burial places. Thus, the Council of Ministers set regulations for the protection and use of these places, maintenance of public order, and prevention of any harm from all kinds of activities.

Local executive and regulatory bodies have been authorized to make decisions regarding the cleanup of these burial places.

Oblast executive committees and the Minsk City Hall have been instructed to ensure the cleanup and restoration of war graves by organizing corresponding tenders if necessary. They will also form local budgets for the next financial year, collect voluntary donations from Belarusian and foreign legal entities and individuals.

The cleanup of war graves is included in the plan of preparations for the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invasion.
