Lukashenko holds several meetings with counterparts at United Nations

NEW YORK, 28 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko held a number of full-scale and short meetings with his counterparts at the United Nations, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters, BelTA has learned.

The minister stressed that the visit to the United Nations is a unique opportunity to meet with leaders of countries which are Belarus’ partners.

In particular, the Belarusian leader held meeting with presidents of Austria, Ecuador, Egypt, Cuba, top-ranking officials of the United Nations, namely the UN Secretary-General and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“The bilateral meetings focused on the development of all-round cooperation between the states. Such issues were discussed at the meetings with the leaders of Egypt, Ecuador, Cuba, Venezuela,” Vladimir Makei said.

“All countries say that the financial and economic situation in the world poses certain problems for all states. But the main objective is to find the avenues of cooperation which will help overcome these difficulties in spite of the complicated situation. The President paid special attention to these issues at the meetings,” the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs said.

In his words, good agreements with Egypt take shape. The sides agreed to exchange top-level visits, hold sessions of the intergovernmental commission, and bolster trade and economic cooperation.

“The meeting with the President of Ecuador was productive. Perhaps, next year the Belarusian President will pay a visit to Latin American countries, including Ecuador, with which we have already agreed to develop and implement new projects in various industries. The meetings with the leaders of Cuba and other countries were very productive too,” Vladimir Makei said.
