Lukashenko expects more legislative initiatives from Investigation Committee

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko expects more legislative initiatives from the Belarusian Investigation Committee. The head of state made a relevant statement at a meeting of the board of the Investigation Committee on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

When speaking about the objectives and functions of the Investigation Committee, Alexander Lukashenko said that he had no particular complaints about the investigative practices. However, other aspects of work need improvement. The Belarusian leader noted that “first of all, there is a lack of analytical work, administrative and legislative initiatives.” Meanwhile, the Investigation Committee has sufficient staff resources for this and a vast knowledge of all aspects of society.

Although the Investigation Committee is not officially responsible for crime prevention, it should not ignore such issues, Alexander Lukashenko believes. Especially since investigators are entitled to submit proposals on the elimination of the causes and conditions which contributed to the commission of an offence. However, an investigator’s functions should not be restricted only to making such proposals. They should also monitor their implementation, the President stressed.
