MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The Armed Forces of Belarus have shown adequate combat readiness overall, though there are shortcomings that need to be addressed, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told journalists regarding the snap inspection of the Armed Forces’ combat readiness, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said he had, in effect, “put the entire army on alert” and that such a large-scale inspection was taking place for the first time. “Everyone started speculating that we were doing this against Ukraine, or Poland, or Lithuania. No, we were doing this for ourselves. I want to know what state our army is in,” he said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said the results of the inspection would be reviewed at a separate event in the near future. “There are also many shortcomings. Although it’s not customary to talk about them. There are shortcomings, but overall the army is combat-ready. As for the details, we will deal with them later,” the president stated.
