MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has signed a decree “On the launch of a research and educational satellite of Belarusian State University”, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

In line with the document, the Education Ministry is instructed to oversee the launch of the research and educational satellite of Belarusian State University (BSU). The document also specifies sources of financing for the project.

All the work to develop and manufacture BSU’s second satellite was done by the staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students of the university. Compared with the satellite that is currently in operation, the new one has a bigger capacity to conduct cosmophysical experiments using Belarus-made materials and semiconductor devices.

The launch of the satellite is slated for 2021. The first Belarusian grouping consisting of two research and educational satellites will be set up in orbit in order to practice their interaction and coordination.

The adoption of the decree is aimed at popularizing aerospace research, improving the training of specialists in this field and developing the national aerospace traditions, as well as encouraging talented young people to take up science.
