Lukashenko criticizes long waiting time for cancer treatment

MINSK DISTRICT, 30 October (BelTA) – Waiting months for cancer treatment is inadmissible, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited the N.N.Alexandrov National Cancer Center of Belarus on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

The head of state instructed to look into the matter.

“Is it OK to wait two or three months for treatment? Meanwhile there is no any transparency with the queues,” Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered. “The Healthcare Ministry has taken a decision to make queues transparent everywhere.”

According to the president, representatives of the State Control Committee visited the center ahead of his visit. They revealed these problems while talking to doctors and patients. “Today, the center is criticized for the lack of transparency. People have to wait months for a surgery,” the head of state said.

According to Director of the N.N.Alexandrov National Cancer Center of Belarus Oleg Sukonko, surgeries are performed from 9am every day. The center can do up to 100 surgeries a day. In his words, surgeons are ready to perform more surgeries, but not everything depends on doctors.

The president warned against corruption in healthcare, stressing that the punishment will be unavoidable.

The head of state was also briefed on the construction and provision of equipment of medical institutions in Minsk Oblast, measures to provide housing for medical workers, construction of kindergartens and schools.
