MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has confirmed plans to form a new government in the build-up to the presidential election. The Belarusian leader made this statement as he visited Minsk Tractor Works on 29 May, BelTA has learned.

“I have said it and I will do it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state explained that this way he wants people to see and understand who will be the country’s top decision-makers.

One of the company’s workers asked if it is true that one of prospective candidates was offered the post of prime minister before the start of the election campaign.

“I guess you mean the banker. I saw his statement in the internet where he said that he was offered something before the election. This banker should think where he will work after the election. After all, we all know from school that lying is bad. In line with the Constitution, only one person in Belarus has the right to put forward a candidate for prime minister and submit this candidacy to the parliament for approval. I have not offered anything to anyone, especially him. What kind of experience does he have to become prime minister?” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Therefore, I simply could not offer and I have not offered this post to anyone. You will see it soon. I will appoint an acting prime minister in this government and after the election we will approve this person as prime minister if he/she works well,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Maybe, this person [the banker] was offered this post in some other country. I tried to figure out where: he could get such an offer from the country where Mishustin was recently appointed prime minister. You know who gave the banker the money to stand for election. In Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has recently replaced the prime minister. I think this is bluff, petty bluff and a lie,” the Belarusian leader added.
