Lukashenko confers with central government, presidential administration after EAEU summit

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko held an operational conference with representatives of the central government and the Belarus President Administration after a videoconference session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 27 May, BelTA has learned. The operational conference focused on the situation in the Belarusian economy.

Efforts to counteract sanctions were high on the agenda. The operation of the financial sector and the state of affairs at major industrial enterprises were also discussed.

Agreements reached as a result of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s meeting with President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the beginning of the week were also mentioned. In particular, those include work on joint projects in the area of import substitution and military technology cooperation. The construction of a Belarusian port in the Russian part of the Baltic Sea region was also mentioned.

Since the minister of foreign affairs was also present in addition to representatives of the economic bloc of the government, Aleksandr Lukashenko updated the tasks the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is supposed to accomplish. Primarily in the context of conveying the Belarusian stance on topical matters to partners.

As far as interaction with neighboring countries is concerned, the extension of the visa waiver for Lithuanian and Latvian citizens till the end of the year was discussed. Aleksandr Lukashenko gave instructions to remove barriers and blocks for residents of these neighboring countries. Among other things the head of state decided in favor of dropping the PCR test requirement for entering Belarus.

The government was instructed to organize an expanded-participation conference chaired by the president after H1 2022 in order to discuss all the topical matters thoroughly and in detail.

The Belarus President Administration was instructed to organize work on control over the situation in the economy as a whole, including the organization of a profound analysis.
