MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on the situation with sports in the country while addressing to the Belarusian people and Parliament during the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 18 December, BelTA has learned.
“As for sports, we are still performing at a worthy level. My slogan is simple: beat the Russians, nothing stands in your way. Our biathletes perform as they should: they run, they shoot, and they win. Hockey players sometimes triumph, sometimes falter, but overall they hold their ground. As for the rest, apart from the trampolinists – well, that we’ll sort out together with Kovalchuk [Minister of Sports and Tourism Sergei Kovalchuk]."
Speaking about culture, the head of state noted that much has already been achieved: historical sites are being restored, and numerous festivals are taking place. At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that the priority should be quality, not quantity. In his words, rather than creating new festivals, it is better to raise the standard of those that already exist. “This will be the main issue for us,” the president stressed.
“We have everything necessary to live and to work properly. But we must look in the mirror more often. Pointing fingers at others will not make things better,” the head of state remarked.
