MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed journalists' questions about Belarus' possible involvement in Ukraine peace talks during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Valaam Island, BelTA learned.

When asked about Belarus’ possible  involvement in the negotiation process, the head of state said: "Vladimir Vladimirovich and I agreed long ago. If needed, he will say so and involve Belarus. Both in this process and other things."

The president also noted that Belarus is already facilitating the agreements reached during Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul, particularly regarding prisoner swaps and repatriation of fallen soldiers.

"The Istanbul agreements covered crucial matters: exchanges of POWs, wounded soldiers and other issues... I told Vladimir Vladimirovich that we treat everyone equally, which he supports. These people - both Ukrainians and Russians - are soldiers. Some are wounded... We hospitalize anyone needing urgent care immediately. And there are such cases," Lukashenko said.

The humanitarian efforts extend beyond prisoner exchanges to include transferring deceased soldiers. The Belarusian leader emphasized that Ukrainians trust only Belarusians in this sensitive process: "Both Russians and Ukrainians requested our involvement. We agreed and are fulfilling this role. If more is needed, they'll ask."
