MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – The crucial task of halting the outflow of people from the regions, relieving pressure on the capital and regional centers, must be addressed through revolutionary methods, decisively and without further discussion, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the Belarusian people and Parliament in Minsk on 18 December, BelTA has learned.
The head of state identified the development of strong regions as one of the priority tasks for the future. He emphasized that all sectors of the economy must form the foundation of the new regional policy. “Every region and district should shift the center of gravity, all efforts and resources,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized. “The most crucial task is to stop the outflow of people from the regions and relieve the pressure on the capital and regional centers. This issue must be resolved through revolutionary methods, decisively and without debate.”
The зresident noted that for modern people, especially the youth, the top priority is personal housing, and this is precisely where they expect support from the state. “For me as president, and this is something I direct the government toward: the main priority is the balanced distribution of productive forces. Housing can be provided in agrotowns and anchor villages, district and regional centers, not just Minsk, as perhaps many young people might understand it,” the head of state emphasized.

“The volume of new housing must be capped in Minsk: no more than 300,000 per year. Perhaps even less,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
As an alternative, the president cited the development of satellite cities. “Let’s create a similarly high-quality, fully-fledged urban environment there and in the adjacent territories. Although I see there is a sea of problems here. We will also comprehensively examine this topic next year,” the Belarusian leader noted.
