Lukashenko calls for river floodplain mowing tech to stop ‘huge land losses’

ZHITKOVICHI DISTRICT, 14 August (BelTA) – During his working trip to Zhitkovichi District on 14 August, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko called for the development of machinery to mow river floodplains in order to prevent land loss and secure additional livestock feed, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that large, high-horsepower machinery cannot access river floodplains for mowing. In this regard, he suggested considering what kind of equipment could properly handle the task. “We need to think about machinery for mowing river floodplains,” the president said. “What I mean is small mowers, mini-tractors, and round balers to mow the grass and wrap it in stretch film immediately.”

He instructed officials to monitor the matter closely, pointing out that mowing floodplains would help bring a significant amount of idle land back into agricultural production. “We need to mow floodplains everywhere, we are losing huge amounts of land,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president also pointed to another aspect of the issue, noting that mowing river floodplains provides additional hay for livestock. “The feed there might not be free, but it is cheap,” he emphasized.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that this issue is primarily relevant for Gomel Oblast, where the Pripyat River flows. “I see that some are mowing and some are not. Therefore, the governor is personally accountable: the floodplain must be mowed,” the head of state said. “While no one expects mowing this autumn, we must secure the compact machinery we need.”
