Lukashenko: Big terrorist groups are masterminded

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – The emergence of big terrorist organizations is orchestrated, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the international conference on counter-terrorism in Minsk on 3 September, BelTA has learned.

“Tell me, who contributed to the emergence of the first large-scale terrorist organizations after the Second World War? Do you remember the war in Afghanistan? We were one of the parties to that war. Do you remember the terrorist organization that was set up in Afghanistan? Remember it, the younger ones can read about it. Who nurtured them? Were those ordinary people, including nationalists, who fought there? Those were not. They did not have the money or weapons for it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“However, someone called them into being, armed them and used them when necessary. We are fighting against these groups today, however, we, decision-makers set the example of how to create such terrorist organizations. And then successfully demonstrated and keep demonstrating how they can be used,” the head of state emphasized.

At the same time Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that today not all terrorist organizations and groups are created by governments and their structures. “They just set an example now to do it. Now this process that used to be manageable has spiraled out of control. Let us eliminate or at least take control of groups that spring up chaotically and have already learned to make money very fast,” he added.
