Lukashenko: Belarusians will not let their country plunge into chaos and discord

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Belarusians will not let their country plunge into the whirlpool of chaos and discord, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his address to Soviet internationalist soldiers, veterans of the war in Afghanistan on the occasion of the anniversary of the Soviet troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The anniversary of the Soviet troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan is marked in Belarus on 15 February. “Twenty-seven years have passed since the withdrawal of the troops from Afghanistan. Thousands of Belarusians were among those soldiers who erected a human shield against international terrorism. Hundreds of young Belarusians died in that war,” the address reads.

“Alarming modern challenges remind us of the value of peace and make it more important to protect the memory of the courage and heroism of our soldiers every day. We will never forget the feat of the veterans of local conflicts involving Belarusian people and will not let our country plunge into the whirlpool of chaos and discord,” the President stressed.

Many internationalist soldiers are still in service. They are working hard, help protect the stability and accord in the country, serve as a role model and help instill love for the Homeland in the younger generation. The head of state wished them peace, strong health, happiness, and prosperity.
