MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – Belarus will improve the multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) Polonez within the next few years. Belarus President, Chairman of the Belarusian People’s Congress Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 19 December, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Polonez MLRS needs improvement taking into account improvements of radioelectronic warfare solutions among other things. “The situation has changed by a lot. The radioelectronic warfare solutions are extremely powerful. We need to protect this missile to make it more precise, to allow it to hit a specific window as I once said. We will get an upgraded Polonez MLRS within the next few years but we have to make it on our own. We’ve made the last few variants of the Polonez MLRS on our own. If we know how to do it, we need to upgrade it. It is our cup of tea: to protect the missile from radioelectronic warfare,” he remarked.
The president pointed out it is necessary to further develop missile production in Belarus. “We don’t need strategic missiles. Our key ally [Russia] and our friend, the People’s Republic of China, have such missiles,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “God forbid if they are launched. It would result in a world war. The planet is unlikely to stay in its orbit after this war. Weapons of deterrence. But, certainly, we create small-range and medium-range missiles and Polonez MLRS is an example of that.”
