Lukashenko: Belarus will remain a republic with strong government

Lukashenko: Belarus will remain a republic with strong government

MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) - Belarus will remain a republic with a strong government, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a solemn ceremony at the Palace of Independence where he signed the Decision of the national constitutional referendum on 4 March, BelTA has learned.

"Belarus will remain a republic with a strong government. The head of state will have enough powers to be the country's political leader," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

At the same time, other government institutions should perform their functions more boldly and independently, the Belarusian leader said. “The government should ensure the development of the economy and social sector, science, culture, education and regulate foreign trade. In short, the economy and finance are the job of the government. The executive committees, especially of the regions and Minsk, should work actively with people, to use all available resources to address people's problems.”

It is time for the Parliament to start working in a fundamentally new mode, the president is convinced. They should create a new generation of laws, which will be a key legal instrument. In this regard, the head of state specified: "Not only the parliament should create laws. In principle, laws are drawn up by the whole people, as we created the Basic Law. But the parliament should adopt laws and be responsible for the laws it passes. Laws should come from life and be understandable to ordinary citizens, not only specialists," the head of state said.

"All this puts forward new requirements to the National Assembly," the president continued. “It should have more people who know how to work with bills. The Parliament should not just consider bills but independently develop legal solutions to solve the needs of society.”
