MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Constitution will no tailored for any person, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his State of the Nation Address on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

“I will never make you, specialists, judges, and the people decide whether to adjust the constitutional basis of our state to any person. This will never happen,” Alexander Lukashenko noted addressing those present in the Oval Hall.

The head of state touched upon the situation in Armenia. “That situation demanded honesty. We chose this path at some point when we lifted the presidential re-election limit,” he recalled. The Belarus president commented on Armenia’s transition to a parliamentary republic as he discussed this problem with the country’s former president back in the day. The Belarusian leader was explicit about his position back then. He called to talk to the people in an honest and open manner. “Why change the framework and adjust the country to a person? What if a person breaks down? This is what has happened,” Alexander Lukashenko pointed out.

He advised the people of Armenia to not get carried away. “Although it is easy to change the government, it should bring results. I hope the smart talented Armenian people will cope with this situation,” he said. Being an EAEU member, “Armenia is not a stranger to us”, the president stated. The government must contact Armenia to find out whether it can provide any kind of assistance to the country, he pointed out.

Although there are plenty of tasks regarding possible changes in the Constitution, they cannot be accomplished simultaneously, the president stressed. “This is about the key document of the country. We must be sure about the decisions we take,” Alexander Lukashenko believes.

He instructed the Constitutional Court judges to draft relevant amendments to the constitution together with scientists and legal practitioners. They know better the country’s legislation and specific features. This applies to the Constitutional Court judges, in the first place, the president underlined. “There is no need to make noise over this process and look for another sensation,” Alexander Lukashenko believes. Specialists should be given time to work undisturbed. “The time will come when we bring forward the best approaches to Belarus’ future, discuss them with a wide range of stakeholders, and take a common decision,” the Belarusian leader added.
