Lukashenko appoints new prosecutor general of Belarus

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko appointed Dmitry Gora as Prosecutor General of Belarus on 23 December. Previously, Dmitry Gora had been the head of the Investigative Committee of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The vacancy for the position of prosecutor general opened up following the election of Andrei Shved as Chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus. He was elected to this post on 19 December during the second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress, having previously served as prosecutor general.

Dmitry Gora was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1970. In 1993, he graduated from the Red Banner Institute in Moscow with a degree in Law. In 2018, he graduated from the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus with a degree in Public Administration and Economics.

From September 1993 till April 2008, he served as an investigator, senior investigator, and investigator for particularly important cases in the investigative department of the State Security Committee (KGB). Then he was appointed head of the investigative department and stayed in this position till July 2008.

From August 2008 till November 2009, he was head of the Third Directorate of the Operations and Analysis Center under the President of the Republic of Belarus.

From November 2009 till December 2019, he served as head of the investigative directorate of the State Security Committee (KGB).

From December 2019 till March 2021, he held the post of Deputy Prosecutor General of Belarus.

In March 2021, he was appointed Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
