MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian system of education does not need more reforms; however, schools need normal textbooks, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said on 9 August as he heard out a report on the progress in the enrollment campaign and the preparation of the education system for the new 2016/2017 academic year, BelTA informs.

“The system of education does not need more reforms, it is needed to improve what we have. Normal textbooks, first of all, history books, are needed because children must understand what was happening in our country in the past. A look in the past is a look in the future. I am not going to teach you. And we become focused on less important issues leaving topical and pending issues without attention,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President emphasized that reforms will just ruin an old, normal education system, and nothing will be build instead of it. “Western specialists tell us that we are the only country in the former Socialist bloc, not to mention the Soviet Union, that did not ruin an efficient education system. First of all, we are warned by our western neighbors – Eastern European states – who had a similar education system in the past,” the President stressed.
