Lukashenko against building skyscrapers in regions

Lukashenko against building skyscrapers in regions

BARANOVICHI, 22 March (BelTA) – There is no need to build high-rise residential buildings in the regions. At the same time, more residential housing should be built in the communities surrounding big cities, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with senior officials of the Baranovichi municipal and district administrations on 22 March, BelTA informs.

Speaking about ways to meet housing construction targets, the Belarusian head of state noted: “Do not go sky-high. No need to build houses with more than 10-11 floors in Baranovichi. I guess, senior officials do not live on the 11th floor and higher, maybe only as a matter of exception. I mean it is not pleasant to live beyond the clouds. Do not build these skyscrapers in Belarus. We have enough places. Build comfortable housing,” the president said.

Alexander Lukashenko supported the idea to promote satellite villages. “If you have such settlements nearby, if it is easy to get there by bus or by car, then these areas should be built up. Baranovichi should have a population of no more than 200,000. Otherwise, the city will turn into a warren that will no longer be comfortable to live in for you and your children and grandchildren. Therefore, this matter should be approached carefully. Keep this in mind while planning housing construction projects,” the head of state noted.
