Kochanova speaks at CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council session

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, member of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council (CIS IPA Council) Natalya Kochanova has taken part in a session of the CIS IPA Council, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament.

The agenda of the meeting featured 18 issues. When speaking about the decisions of the CIS Council of Heads of Government as of 6 November 2020 and the CIS Council of Heads of State as of 18 December 2020, Natalya Kochanova informed the attendees about Belarus’ approaches and plans for its chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2021.

According to her, the priorities of Belarus’ chairmanship include promotion of trade and economic cooperation and humanitarian ties, convergence of the CIS and the Eurasian Economic Union, closer cooperation between the CSTO and the SCO. She emphasized that the CIS IPA also plays a role in integration processes.

Participants of the meeting discussed international observation of elections and referendums in the CIS countries, the activities of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of CIS IPA Member Nations.

The Council put together the Expert Council on Science and Education at the CIS IPA, reviewed the work of the Expert Council on Economy at the CIS IPA, and defined the tasks to implement the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030.

The Council members discussed preparations for the 9th edition of the Nevsky International Ecological Congress and the 3rd edition of the Eurasian Women's Forum.

In 2022, the CIS IPA will mark its 30th anniversary. In this regard, the council approved a plan of events dedicated to the anniversary date.
