MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) – Following her report to the head of state, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova told journalists that the monitoring of retail outlets by members of the Council of the Republic focuses on fair pricing, product selection, and the availability of Belarusian goods on store shelves.

Natalya Kochanova briefed the president on the retail sector and pricing, a matter the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives are monitoring directly on the ground. She specified that members of the Council of the Republic are monitoring 700 retail outlets nationwide, including 116 in rural areas.

“Of course, first and foremost, we emphasize the availability of retail outlets. If there aren’t any, then there should be shops on wheels, and people should be able to purchase quality goods in any region of our country,” the speaker said.

Natalya Kochanova identified pricing and product choice as the second, equally important priority. “The head of state has set a clear goal: fair prices. People should be able to buy goods at reasonable prices,” she emphasized.

According to her, the monitoring also scrutinizes the presence of domestic products. “It’s unacceptable that, with so many domestic companies producing high-quality food products and consumer goods, we sometimes don’t see them in our stores. Therefore, a detailed report was delivered on trade issues in all regions of the country,” Natalya Kochanova added.
