Kochanova: Belarus, Sudan have long-standing friendly relations

MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Sudan have long-standing friendly relations, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Sudan to the Republic of Belarus Mohammed Omer Musa Ali, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and Sudan have a long history of friendly relations, and we view your appointment as ambassador as a new stage in our cooperation in various areas: politics, economy, humanitarian matters. We very much hope that the situation in Sudan will stabilize in the near future and we will be able to cooperate more actively in economy and politics. We hope that our interparliamentary contacts will be resumed. We also hope that a parliament will be formed in Sudan in the near future and our contacts will return to what they were before. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko had the opportunity to speak at the parliament of Sudan during his visit in 2017. Our president has warm feelings for your country. Now that Sudan is struggling with an emergency situation, we have sent a humanitarian cargo there. We will cooperate with the Republic of the Sudan in the future, that’s for sure,” Natalya Kochanova noted.

Belarus-Sudan relations are based on a number of agreements. “A working group has been put together at the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. It is headed by our colleague Yuri Derkach. We will be happy to maintain interparliamentary contacts. This is very important in the current situation,” the speaker noted.

“Of course, economic cooperation is also important for us. We are ready to participate in various types of energy and agricultural projects. We have something to offer to Sudan. We have a well-developed agriculture, engineering. Trade and economic cooperation is the foundation for cooperation between any countries, yet cooperation in the humanitarian field is no less important. We welcome the agreements that were signed between our higher educational institutions. In fact, we understand that the future belongs to the youth. Today, 26 students from Sudan study in Belarus. We are ready to see more young people from Sudan at our universities. There are 50 higher educational institutions in Belarus that train specialists in absolutely all areas,” added Natalya Kochanova.
