MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – The positions of Belarus and Arab countries on many international issues are aligned, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said during a meeting with an Arab Parliament delegation led by its President Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi in Minsk on 20 July, BelTA has learned.
“Our positions on many international issues are fully aligned, focusing on peace and harmony,” Natalya Kochanova said, emphasizing the peace-loving policy of Belarus and the nations represented in the Arab Parliament. The speaker pointed to shared positions on issues of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
The chairwoman of the Council of the Republic noted that Belarus deeply values its friendship and cooperation with the Arab Parliament. “Good partnership has developed between Belarus and Arab countries. Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke about this today. We understand that this largely depends on the policies pursued by our president and the leadership of the Arab League countries,” Natalya Kochanova said.
The speaker of the Council of the Republic noted mutual support at the level of international organizations, including the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the SCO, and BRICS. In her words, parliamentarians’ support for a peace-loving policy is a pivotal issue for any parliament in the world.
Natalya Kochanova pointed to a number of common topics for cooperation with Arab countries. In addition to promoting a peace-loving policy, this includes trade and economic cooperation. The speaker noted that an upcoming visit to Algeria and Egypt is being prepared, during which issues of trade, economic cooperation, and investment will be discussed. “We can cooperate in all areas: agriculture, industry, education, and healthcare. We can promote these topics together, resolving many issues primarily in the interests of our peoples and our countries,” she said.
Humanitarian cooperation is also vital, Natalya Kochanova continued. In particular, she emphasized that Belarus adheres to traditional family values, noting, however, that these issues are currently a major concern for many states worldwide. Natalya Kochanova recalled that in October, Belarus will host another forum “Conversation about what matters: Happy family – strong state” dedicated to traditional family values. The speaker invited representatives of the Arab Parliament to participate in this event.
