KGB head comments on questionable spending in Lithuanian MFA accounts

KGB head comments on questionable spending in Lithuanian MFA accounts

MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) – Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus (KGB) Ivan Tertel, speaking with journalists, shared some interesting details obtained from the accounting records of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BelTA has learned.

“As it turns out, the Lithuanian MFA spends more on trips [of representatives of the so-called Belarusian opposition in Lithuania] than on trips of dimplomats. And if you look at the MFA’s accounts (which we, of course, have), there is much there to show the Lithuanian people. In time, we will show it. And our Lithuanian partners understand this situation,” Ivan Tertel said.

“The same applies to Poland. I won't reveal certain details, but when we discuss these matters, they all agree that if it were not for the massive funding from those interested parties… in fact, their instrument,” the KGB chairman noted.

Ivan Tertel emphasized that this issue also arises in discussions with the American side when they request the transfer of certain individuals from Belarus. “We told them directly: ‘We understand you, this is your instrument, which was not implemented in the Republic of Belarus. You made promises to them, you invested, there are many of your agents there. We understand that you want to withdraw them.’ In some ways, we can understand your position, as we don't abandon our own people either,” the head of the agency said.

“Not all of them are extracted, however, only the best of the best. And those that are drawn in by others, by and large, are not needed. These are ‘discarded goods or expenses’,” the KGB chairman remarked.
